On the Pop | Group Show at the Fumbally Exchange, Dublin 2

14 to 21 September 2017 | Opening: 14 September, 6pm

Studio Yum Yum presents On the Pop, a multidisciplinary exhibition as a part of the Dublin Fringe Festival. This four-person group show featuring Gearóid O’Dea, Darren O’Driscoll, Niamh Hannaford and Gavin Leane, explores confessions, vulnerability, and Dublin wit. The members of Studio Yum Yum commissioned, writer, Peter McNamara to create a flash fiction story based on the expression ‘On the Pop’. He produced a tale of a young man’s trials and tribulations as he comes to terms with his erection being inexplicably linked to a white pigeon.

Each of the artists independently interpreted this story in a variety of mediums from installation, drawing, painting, and photography, thus creating vibrant artworks in varied disciplines.
The opening night will feature a reading of the story by Peter McNamara, accompanied by a sound piece created by Fergal Corrigan.
‘Pop the Question’, a panel led discussion by Sue Rainsford will be held on Saturday 16th September at 2 pm. Studio Yum Yum will be discussing their individual practices, methods and the themes in their work. ‘On the Pop’ will run until the 21st September 12-8pm.

Standing still standing | Janet Mullarney, RHA Foyer Installation, Dublin

7 September to 20 December 2017

Mullarney’s installation, standing, still standing is a combination of twenty framed drawings taken from the exhibition My Minds I (2015-2016) with new sculptural works. A delicate mountainous floating landscape is disrupted by the lighting creating disparate shadows from the clay forms, introducing a third dimension.
Mullarney has described the work: A horizon of mountains, a result of casual encounters that occurred when challenging the “obedience “of clay, reflects on the the many facets of mortality /aspirations. Opposite a selection of ephemeral thoughts frame the solemn mountain ‘Metamorphosing’.

Foxfire | Harikrishnan Panicker+Deepti Nair at Ormston House, Limerick

8 to 15 September 2017

Ormston House presents Foxfire by artists Harikrishnan Panicker and Deepti Nair.
Hari and Deepti are a husband-wife artist duo based in Mumbai and previously based out of Denver. Hari & Deepti believe in the experiential aspect of their work. They are story tellers who bring their stories to life through their intricate paper cut light boxes. They have always been drawn towards the imaginative aspect of story telling. Stories have so many shades and depth in them, and paper as a medium has the exact qualities to reflect and interpret them. Most of their shows are held in pitch darkness, with their pieces being the only light in the gallery, pulling the viewer into the narrative and transporting them to a different space and dimension.
Their installation, titled Foxfire, will create an environment inspired by a quote by John Muir – The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness and the phenomenon of bioluminescence.
It will allow the viewer to immerse themselves, walk around and experience being inside one of their lit pieces.
