Screening Event | SIDINGS at the Station, Mohill, Leitrim

19 November 2017

Djeribi organizes the active occupation of a long disused station which saw the last train pass through on 31 March 1959, turning it into a community space for a day of shared food, films and conversations.
The station-masters office becomes a cinema where documentaries are shown to spark discussions. The entrance/waiting room becomes a place to share tea, coffee, soup, bread, sweet things. The first-class waiting room has regained its lost door and is now boasting a constructed compost toilet that uses woodshavings from the local sawmill.

Sidings, borrowing its name from the off-shoot tracks for inspection and repairs of machinery, is an invitation to reflect on the march of progress and the things that challenge the idea of community, if community is what humans do to survive together.
