For over 20 years Brian Maguire’s work has represented stories and images from areas of conflict throughout the world. His practice primarily takes the form of portraiture, in addition to other forms of painting and printing.
Maguire has undertaken residencies in every prison in Ireland and in a wide range of prisons in Europe and the US. In the Dublin Contemporaries (2010) exhibition he presented the work Seed Corn is not for Harvesting which was critical of the official response to the Crumlin/Drimnagh feud which claimed the lives of 20 young Dubliners.
Maguire has also been based in Central America, South America and Syria, working with NGOs and newsrooms, to witness and record first-hand civil wars and bloodshed borne of drug and class conflicts. His presentation at Get Together will address work made throughout this time and across continents.
