Katherine Atkinson is an arts and professional development manager, musician and performer. Experienced in collaborative arts practice, she is committed to cultural democracy through the arts, engagement with communities and public policy. In her previous role at Create, Katherine managed collaborative public art commissions including: the South Lee Mental Health Unit, Cork (Per Cent for Art Commission) Blackrock Hall, Primary Care Centre, Cork; Typecast in partnership with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) and Coolmine Therapeutic Community and, most recently, Tolka Nights, the River Tolka Flood Defences Public Art Commission with Dublin City Council and Fingal and Meath County Councils. Katherine was manager/ trainer for Extending Architecture: an Arts Council training and professional development initiative in 2016 and also managed Professional Development and Project Support for Create with responsibility for Arts Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme. Katherine holds a Diploma in Teaching (Arts) SACAE, a Certificate of Music TAFE, a Diploma in Theatre and Drama Studies from NUI Maynooth and an MA in Public Culture Studies from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. She is a member of the Edges and Margins Collective and also Visual Arts Ireland, the representative body for professional artists in Ireland.
