Rana Öztürk is the MExIndex Curator in residence for this Summer and Autumn. Living and working in Istanbul, she is also very familiar with the Irish art scene and we look forwards to her contributions to the MExIndex over the coming months. More details on the way.
Rana Öztürk completed her Ph.D. with her thesis Narratives of Global Modernity: International Contemporary Art Exhibitions as Places for Mapping Relational Geographies at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 2015. She has also been a research scholar at the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media (GradCAM) throughout her doctoral studies. Prior to that, she received her MA in Art History from the Istanbul Technical University with her thesis An Analysis of Conceptual Art Practices in Turkey. Besides her academic work, until now she has also worked as a curator, editor, translator, and coordinator for various organizations and art events. She curated We All Live on the Same Sea at Sirius Art Centre, Ireland (2014), Temporarily Shelved as part of the 3rd International Sinop Biennial in Turkey (2010) (co-curated with Vaari Claffey), and Slow Space Fast Pace as part of Cork Art Trail, Ireland (2007). She has been contributing to various art magazines, catalogues and publications since 2001. She is currently based in Istanbul and teaches art history and contemporary art criticism and theory at Yeditepe University, Bilgi University, and Bogaziçi University.
