S. Fennessy Corcoran
Simon Fennessy Corcoran is a curator and visual artist based in Limerick City. Corcoran is the current holder and fifth recipient of the Shinnors Scholarship (2015-2017), undertaking an MA through research in Curatorial Practice at Limerick City Gallery of Art with Limerick School of Art & Design. Corcoran works concurrently in artistic sculptural practice and curatorial practice combining both in the development of projects. Corcoran is currently developing an exhibition with Limerick City Gallery of Art, “known Unknown” which invited three contemporary painters to respond to the collection in unique and distinct ways. This coincides with the 80th anniversary of the forming of the permanent collection in 1937. Corcoran also developed and runs “Plinth” a yearly graduate award exhibition which supports recent graduates of L.S.A.D. to produce an exhibition of work based around a Plinth, this yearly project is now entering its third year. Simon has worked as part of the Cultural team at Ormston House Gallery since 2014. He holds a BA in Fine Art Sculpture from L.S.A.D. (2014) and is a member of Wickham Street Studios.
Recent curatorial projects include: Muintír (2016), Limerick City Gallery of Art (2016); Plinth II. (Sept 2016), Sailors Home, Limerick City; Visioning Alternatives (Apr 2016) The Belltable, Limerick and Slow Art Day (Apr 2015), The Hunt Museum, Limerick City.
Recent group exhibitions include: 1Ft Sq (2016), Higher Bridges gallery touring to Strule Arts Centre, Omagh and Why did I do it? Materials, Messages & Meanings Series (2016), R-space Gallery, Lisburn.
