What is the legacy of our role in this particular time and place and what shape will society take in 25, 50 or a hundred years due to the actions and decisions we make today? What impact do we have on a potential and speculated society? How as individuals do we foresee our role in the everyday lives of a future society in which we may no longer be present? Speculation has uses beyond sheer fiction, we forecast the short term everyday in preparation for the following moment but our predictions can never truly be accurate. Our predictions can however be inaccurate in a very interesting way, how we speculate currently in the present moment characterises who we are and what we believe more than any other archival text could ever represent. Our aspirations and our interpretations of what is possible define who we are here and now more so than what we believe we know about our present moment, just look at classic science fiction texts and the fact that no matter how imaginative and intricate they were conceptually they just couldn’t shake certain social bias and perspective of their own time. No matter how advanced the supercomputer or anti-gravity system described in these stories were certain aspects of the time the tales where written in persist like the archetypal lead male or the Nuclear Family. All those who would be interested in a creative project centred around different approaches to speculation please contact E: thespeculativesociety@yahoo.com | or Steve T: 087-9873145 | www.stevemaherart.wordpress.com [1]

Centre for Contemporary Art Derry~Londonderry fosters a wide range of artistic, curatorial, and critical practices through four streams: on-site exhibitions, off-site projects, public programmes, and in- and outbound residencies. Every year, a jury composed of three international arts professionals will assess applications and select an artist, duo or group to realize a specific project. The aim of Production Ireland is to identify and support some of the most promising art practitioners connected to Ireland, North and South, and provide them with an opportunity to produce new work and bring it to the attention of a wider public. No age limit or specified nationality applies to this call but the applicant needs be in the earlier stages of his or her career and have a connection to Ireland.
Centre for Contemporary Art Derry~Londonderry fosters a wide range of artistic, curatorial, and critical practices through four streams: on-site exhibitions, off-site projects, public programmes, and in- and outbound residencies. Production Ireland is CCA’s annual commissioning for emerging artists with a connection to our region. Every year, a jury composed of three international arts professionals will assess applications and select an artist, duo or group to realize a specific project. This inaugural commission has been made possible through the generous support of Arts & Businesses, Caldwell & Robinson Solicitors, and The Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The selected project will be supported with a minimum production budget of £3,700 or €4,500, a fee of £1,500 or €1,800, and travel to and accommodations in the City of Derry for up to one month, if the recipient does not reside in the greater city area.

The jurors for this years’ commission are Locky Morris, Paul O'Neill, and Emily Pethick. Deadline for applications is Friday, June 1st (Greenwich Mean Time). The successful applicant(s) will be contacted during the first half of July.
Papergirl is a non-commercial art project founded in Berlin in 2006. In June 2012 Papergirl Dublin will run for the first time, so we are asking people to submit art. The only rule is that the art must be rollable - drawings, prints, collages, photos, paintings, textile work... anything 2-dimensional. The art will be exhibited on the 21st of June (in the Supafast Building on Great Strand St), then rolled up and distributed by people on bicycles to unsuspecting bystanders (like a paper-boy). To submit work, please post to: Papergirl Dublin, c/o Black Church Print Studio, 4 Temple Bar, Dublin 2. Or use one of our drop-boxes - one in Exchange in Temple Bar, the other in the NCAD Student Union on Thomas Street. All work will be accepted and exhibited- there is no judging process. The deadline is the 30th of May. For more information, visit our website: www.papergirldublin.tumblr.com [1]| E: papergirldublin@gmail.com

Faber Studios ( Caelan Bristow, Marie Connole and Aaron Lawless) has proposed the project re-possession, a multi-part work that addresses the idea of object identity, particularly the stolen or confiscated objects that are found in the Lost & Found storage of Garda Stations, train and bus stations, airports and other public institutions.

The project structure parallels the archetypal story of tragedy leading to recovery and growth. Re-possession explores the psychological impact of loss through personal stories (tragedy), the methodical documentation of objects (taking inventory), and the rehabilitation of the object by the craftsperson (resurrection). Re-possession promotes the value of reuse and a culture of exchange in the community.

In the first part of the project, we are collecting stories about people’s experience of loss or theft. Please contact us with your stories by email or post. Audio recordings are very welcome. Deadline is ongoing.

During the course of ev+a International, we will be giving any collected objects new life by re-imagining and recreating them in an ongoing workshop space in our studio. Please let us know if you would like to participate in these workshops. The primary concern of Re-possession is to promote the value of reuse and the culture of exchange in the community.

Faber Studios Limerick, 19 Henry St. | faberstudios@gmail.com | http://faberstudioslimerick.blogspot.com | Deadline: ongoing

The Belfast Waterfront & Ulster Hall are seeking submissions from local artists to contribute to our gallery programme over the Autumn and Winter period 2012/13. We are currently seeking individual visual artists, artist groups and community groups for month long exhibitions to take place in the Ulster Hall Group Space and upstairs corridor galleries, as well as the Waterfront Gallery 2 and concourse space. The physical layout of both venues best facilitates wall hung pieces. We will, however, consider submissions in a range of media based on their individual merit and suitability. We encourage submissions from both emerging and established artists. Interested artists should submit a current CV, artist statement, short exhibition proposal (1 paragraph) and no more than 3 images of recent work (indicating dimensions and approximate size of exhibition if possible). Please also indicate any dates in the period October 2012 – April 2013 when you would not be free to exhibit your work. Closing date for submissions is Friday 27th April 2012. All successful applicants will be notified by Friday 11th May. Submissions should be emailed to artsubmissions@belfastcity.gov.uk and must be under 2mb in size or can be posted to Ulster Hall, Bedford Street, Belfast BT2 7FF (marked for the attention of the ECHO Officer) Contact: Cailín Lynn, Community Outreach Assistant, Ulster Hall | T: +44 (0)28 90334471 | www.belfastcity.gov.uk/ulsterhall [1] | www.waterfront.co.uk [2]
