12 - 13 May | Ballymastocker Bay, Portsalon, Donegal | A Project Initiated By John Ryan And Tom Watt | Participating Artists: Sara Amido, Clare Breen, Ruth Clinton, Amanda Conrad, Peter Donnellan, Jane Fogarty, Sarah Gordon, Tracy Hanna, Tom Lawton, David Lunney, Niamh Moriarty, James O hAodha, Matthew Slack. RESORT is a 10 day long residency undertaken by artists on Ballymastocker Bay, Portsalon, Donegal, a beach near the furthest north point of Ireland. The idea to use a beach as the environment for this project was born from a show that some of us participated in last November, where all of the work was site specific and would no longer exist after the show had finished. Given that the beach is a public space, artists were invited to participate in the residency with the understanding that none of the work will exist in the phenomenal world after the project was over. Non participants are invited to the location on the weekend of the 12th and 13th of May to engage with artists through viewing of works created and discussion of outcomes of the experience | www.apopulardestination.wordpress.com [1]

Exhibition runs until 26th May 2012 | Port Road, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal | ‘The Coercion of Substance’: New Paintings by Samuel Walsh | The exhibition will have an official public opening event later in its run. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue with an essay by Gemma Tipton on the artist. The title of the exhibition ‘The Coercion of Substance’ is taken from the poem by Seamus Heaney, ‘The Artist’, from his 1984 book of poems ‘Station Island’. The title suggests the idea of the artist taking pigments, oils and other materials and cajoling and manipulating them into something new on a canvas. This describes perfectly both the desire and the journey first begun by Samuel Walsh in the late 1970s when he began his career as an artist and which has culminated in this new exhibition.
