NYCI Child Protection Awareness Training for Artists with Anna Gunning – Sligo

Have you previously undertaken Child Protection Training? If not, then this session will provide you with certified basic Child Protection Training through the National Youth Council of Ireland’s (NYCI) Children First Programme.

This session is aimed at artists who work with Children and Young People through a range of media including visual arts, music, literature, dance, theatre and film. In particular of interest for artists working in schools but also other contexts such as workshops in libraries and community settings and public art projects that involve engagement with Children, Young People and vulnerable adults.

N.B. Places will be allocated with priority to artists on the Sligo Arts Service Artist’s Panel. 
If there are spaces remaining they will be allocated to other artists in the region on a first come first served basis.

Format The NYCI Children First Child Protection Awareness Programme is the basic awareness course developed for staff and volunteers working with young people, and is the recognised training programme for the youth work sector. The course is delivered through tutor input, group discussion and exercises.  The session covers the following topics:

Legislation and policy
Values and attitudes
Reasonable grounds for concerns
Dealing with disclosures
Code of behaviour – working safely with young people
Scenarios – young people and vulnerable adults

This session will be delivered by Anna Gunning a trainer accredited by the NYCI in line with their Children First Programme.  The session will also include case studies and scenarios relating to work with both young people and vulnerable adults. You may also flag any specific questions you’d like to see addressed on the registration form.

Anna Gunning is a freelance trainer who provides child protection training on behalf of the Child Protection Programme in NYCI. Anna has worked in youth work and the voluntary sector in a wide variety of roles. She managed and delivered national programmes in the National Youth Council of Ireland and she has worked as regional manager of a child protection national voluntary organisation. Within these roles she has developed policy and programmes relating to young people with an emphasis on youth participation and best practice in ensuring the welfare of children and young people. She is currently the Acting CEO of Volunteer Ireland.
