Considerations on showing and selling installation work with Niamh O’Malley – Fingal

This talk will be of particular interest to artists working in installation and those whose ideas find expression in multi-part works across a range of media.  Niamh O’Malley will discuss her own work looking in particular at the importance of staging and framing within her installations.  She will discuss how these considerations come into play when the work is sold or presented elsewhere and provide insights in to typical loan or sale agreements employed with institutions and collectors to ensure the integrity of the work and the artist’s intention.

Niamh O’Malley was born in Co Mayo, Ireland, 1975 and currently lives and works in Dublin, Ireland.  O’Malley uses video, drawing, painting and sculpture, to examine ways in which we try to access the world through images. Her works often act as filters and invite us to enter the spaces between objects and places and our ideas of them. O’Malley has made numerous solo exhibitions in recent years including Bluecoat Liverpool, 2015/16, Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin, December 2014 –February 2015, a five venue solo show called ‘The Mayo Collaborative’ Ireland (2013), ‘Garden’, Project Arts Centre, Dublin (2013) Ha Gamle Prestegard, Norway (2012), ‘Model’, Green on Red Gallery, Dublin, Ireland (2011), ‘Island’, Centre Culturel Montehermoso, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain (2010), ‘Frame, Glass, Black’ Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris, France (2010), ‘Echo’, Gaain Gallery, Seoul, Korea (2010), ‘No Distance’, Void, Derry, Northern Ireland (2009). A selection of group exhibitions include eva International, Biennale of Visual Art, Limerick, Tulca Visual Arts Festival, Galway, Kilkenny Arts Festival, ‘All Humans Do’, White Box, New York and the Model, Sligo (all 2012); ‘Twenty’ Irish Museum of Modern Art, ‘The Dissolution of Time and Space’, Kunstverein Ludwigsburg, Germany, ‘The Ha-Ha Crystal’, Maria Stenfors, London (all 2011).

Her work is included in numerous private & public collections including The Hugh Lane, Dublin City Gallery,  Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Arts Council of Ireland & Galleria Arte Moderna, Turin. O’Malley received a PhD in practice-led research from University of Ulster, Belfast in 2003.
