Introduction to Pinhole Photography at Limerick Printmakers

A pinhole camera, is a simple camera without a lens and with a single small aperture, a pinhole – effectively a light-proof box with a small hole in one side similar to a camera obscura. Light from a scene passes through this single point and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box. The film inside the handmade pinhole camera records the image that comes in through the pinhole. The camera records an image of the scene that you point the camera at. The film is exposed for a long period of time while the camera is held very steadily as the pinhole allows so little light through. The pinhole in a pinhole camera acts as the lens.
The pinhole forces every point emitting light in the scene to form a small point on the film, so the image is crisp.
This is a fun + experimental process that is a great introduction to creative photography.
