Application deadline: Sunday 27 August, midnight
Call for artists and filmmakers for an exhibition that will be part of the FiLiA (Feminism in London) Conference at the Institute of Education, London, October 14-15th. We are looking for films and videos for a screening but we will also consider other works and performances to be part of a small curated exhibition.
It is our intention that the exhibition will begin to break down the hegemony of class and privilege in artwork about women’s experiences. We want to provide a space for women artists who feel their stories are not adequately told.
We hope that the exhibition will explore how “Class becomes internalised as an intimate form of subjectivity, experienced as knowledge of always not being ‘right’.” (Skeggs, 1997) and how “Legitimate (middle class) selves and lives are still constructed from privilege and validated at the expense of others” (Gilles, 2007: 23)
There will also be a reading and discussion group planned during the exhibition which you are also invited to submit ideas to.
Unfortunately we have no funding to pay the artists to take part. Please feel free to contact us for further information.
