PHLOX | Group Exhibition at Naughton Gallery, Belfast

12 October to 26 November 2017

Work by Carly Jean Andrews (USA) / Tuesday Bassen (USA) / Laura Callaghan (UK) / Anna DeFlorian (Italy) / Cécile Gariépy (Canada) / Penelope Gazin (USA) / Fiona McDonnell (UK) / Shannon Wright (USA).

Opening Thursday 12 October, 6 – 8pm – featuring a live set by GIRL DJs.

Featuring a stimulating mix of established and emerging talent from around the world, Phlox showcases some of the most vital work being made by female illustrators today. A survey conducted in 2010 by 3×3: The Magazine of Contemporary Illustration discovered that of 527 illustrators living in the USA, the UK, Canada, Europe, and Asia/The Pacific, every single female illustrator – on average – made less than her male counterpart.

Phlox demonstrates how illustration industry sexism cannot silence female perspectives, with depictions of women as diverse as those who create them, exploring identity, race, sexuality, and representation.
