29 June to 13 July
An exhibition of vibrant new paintings by Monica Groves. She describes herself as a late starter and only began to paint after rearing seven children, running a hotel in Pembrokeshire and sailing around the western seaboard.
She visits those remote locations where the spirit of landscape is most palpable – amongst the mountains, lakes, islands and rock formations of Beara and southwest Kerry. With no formal training she paints to express her feelings and does so with great energy and vigour. Her work intuitively focuses on the interaction of colour, while trying to define the spirit of place within the Irish landscape. She concentrates on the essence of location rather than the actual scene.
