Live Performance and Talk by the Artist : 14.00 till 14.30, 23 October.

Conchúir is a graduate of the world renowned Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow, Scotland and is currently undertaking post graduate studies at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin. He was voted as one of the top 100 International Contemporary Artists working today in 2015 by Aesthetica Magazine London.

The body of work presented at 23 Weafer Street takes Eileen Grey’s “Non Conformist Chair, 1926” as its starting point. Conchuir explores notions of what we define the human body to be useful for over time and challenges accepted definitions of functionality. Employing photography, sculpture and text the artist takes significant shifts of “Anti Thought Development” from the Paris Commune of 1871, Ireland’s 1916 Rising, The Non Conformist of 1926, Violet Gibson (as Eileen Grey launched her chair to the world, Ireland’s Violet Gibson launched a bullet at the head of Mussolini in Italy) and the execution of the poet/playwright Federico Garcia Lorca, “To See You Naked is to Recall the Earth”.

What is it to be revolutionary? To be of use, both now and for future generations? To defy the norms of a “functioning” society?
