My name is Norma Manly, I am a freelance photographer based in Co. Tipperary.
I studied photography in Limerick Senior College of Further Education for three years graduating in 2008 with a Higher Diploma. Since graduation I have continued to work in photography, mainly focusing on personal projects. The projects that I work on are usually on a long term basis and documentary is my genre of choice. I feel that documentary allows me to engage very deeply in a project and the understanding that I gain from this greatly enriches my work.
I am a member of Uspecto photojournalism agency based in Dublin.
Re-connect explores the issue of immigration through photography, an issue so relevant in contemporary Ireland.
It follows the lives of the aging Irish community in New York City, bringing alive their intense love and pride for their place of birth.
My Objective is to encourage new/renewed connections to be made and re-established from home and abroad. Re-connect with our family and friends, bringing them one-step closer to our doorstep.
The project was funded and exhibited as part of Bealtaine festival 2012. “Quay arts” ballina, Co Tipperary, was the location for the exhibition. The space provided was 40ft by 20ft.
There are 20 overall back and white pictures in the series, 19 of the pictures are 24×16, with just 1 being 30×40, all are on a dry mount board.
For each picture i have an info board which will be placed underneath each picture, they vary in size from 4×6, to a 9×8.
There is no catalogue provided, an artist fee is not required, nor is an admission fee.
It would be available to exhibit at your convenience.
