This is the “maquette for one aspect of Ghostbox (works in a big blaked out space, 5 elements):
“It is mainly in black and white with occasional subtle washes of luminous colour. The entrance space will comprise of an audio work with ghost stories written by Michael Comyns who by day is a Herald at the College of Heraldry in Dublin. These have been set to an atmospheric soundtrack and voiced by RTÉ’s Aidan Stanley. Alongside this will be a single channel audio visual work called Erebus and Terror based on the ill fated voyage of two Victorian ships attempting to discover the North West Passage through the Arctic. Here will also be the 40 masks made in monochrome by the students at Gaelscoil Chloch na gCoillte. A corridor leads off this room and features a piece comprising of projection and motion lighting based around aspects of the moon and its mythology; this leads to another lit corridor that in turn leads into the final room, the titular “Ghostbox”. Here lighting and multichannel video and sound present images of storytelling and story gathering as the void in between bursts dramatically to life with the ghosts that seem to exist in between the two. It is intended that the whole gallery becomes a journey through the many enigmatic aspects of this special time of year, a modern digital environment that works in ancient almost organic ways to evoke mystery and magic”.
