126 Artist-Run Gallery Seeks New Directors
126 Artist-Run Gallery are accepting applications for new Directors for 2016/17. The Board of Directors are responsible for the overall programming, curation, production and administration of 126’s year-round programme of events and exhibitions. 126 are currently seeking Directors with skills and interests in one or more of the following areas: curation, archiving, research, web design, marketing and exhibition installation.
126 is integral to the visual arts culture in Galway and Ireland. Run voluntarily by a board of professional artists, 126 prioritises criticality and experimentation in contemporary visual art. For our 2017 programme we already have a number of interesting local nada international projects planned- so its a great time to get involved.
Experience gained working in an artist led organisation like 126 can greatly improve your professional practice. Directors gain an understanding of all aspects of running a gallery, curation, assessing proposals, installation, grant application writing, artist liason, archiving and arts administration. Each individual Director takes responsibility for specific duties, which play to the individual’s strengths.
What we’re looking for:
Essential criteria:
-Appreciation of contemporary art and a commitment to the objectives of 126
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-High degree of personal organisation
-Self-motivation and initiative
-Ability to work productively as art of a close knit team of directors
Desirable criteria:
-Previous experience in arts administration or curation
-Computer literacy and knowledge of social media marketing
-Experience in drafting funding applications/proposals
