In Conversation: 1984 Dunnes Stores Strikers and Garrett Phelan with Olivia O’Leary.

Earlier this year the Hugh Lane received as a gift from the artist Garrett Phelan, a work based on the 1984 Dunnes Stores Workers Strike against Apartheid. To celebrate this important acquisition and highlight these strikers contribution to political activism, we invite you to join journalist and broadcaster Olivia O’Leary in conversation with the 11 strikers to discuss the motivations for and consequences of their strike action, which began in July 1984 and lasted for 2 years and 9 months. The conversation is from 12noon  to 1.30pm on Saturday the 24th. Chaired by Olivia O’Leary, the group will be joined by the artist Garrett Phelan.

The event is free and located in our Sculpture Hall. Early arrival is recommended and refreshments will be served on arrival.
