We are delighted to bring you four panel discussions at Get Together 2024 that aim to foster a dynamic dialogue between visual artists, curators, and art institutions. Following an open call, the following panel discussions have been selected to spark conversations and inspire change in the ever-evolving art landscape:
The Mother City [9:30am – 10:30am]

This panel focuses on The Mother City – a practice-based performance project created for Cork Midsummer Festival and curated by Pluck Projects. Collectively, the artistic research explores matricentric feminism and the potential of mothering as an activist strategy. More information >

Aestheticisation of the Damaging Effects of Social Media and Doomscrolling [12 noon – 1pm]

This panel explores internet culture with an emphasis on the aetheticisation of doomscrolling and understimulation as a counter response. The term ‘doomscrolling’ was coined during the Covid-19 pandemic to denote the excessive consumption of saddening or negative material via social media or news media outlets. More information >

The Porous School of Collections [2:45 – 3:45pm]

This panel focuses on programming of museum collections that take them outside the museum and exhibition formats. It brings together examples of projects in Northern European art museums that attempt to address colonialism, access, inclusion and the art object as a connection to communities. More information >

Art and Ecology Interface: Curating in the Landscape [5pm – 6pm]

This panel explores curating art in natural landscapes to connect people with ecology and foster belonging. Outdoor exhibitions, like sculpture trails and land art, blur the line between art and science, encouraging environmental awareness and responsibility through engagement with nature.
