WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This one-day workshop is designed for beginners who will have the opportunity to explore the exciting possibilities of Intaglio Etching and expand their printmaking skills. You will be introduced to the basics of Intaglio, learning the spitbite technique to create beautiful aquatints. This method will allow you to achieve rich tones and depth in your prints, working with a mono-color palette. Throughout the day, you will focus on creating one plate, learning the essential steps of plate making.

This course is ideal for beginners looking to explore Intaglio etching techniques.
REQUIREMENTS AND MATERIALS
For this workshop, you’ll be working from your own ideas, so please bring a drawing, painting, or image you’ve created as source material. If you don’t usually draw or paint, feel free to bring other source material like photographs, sketches, or images that inspire you. The more source material you bring, the better! Please aim to bring hard copy images to work from. All the necessary materials for making your print will be provided, including plates, inks, and tools.
It is necessary to bring: an apron, pencils, pens and paintbrushes and a notebook.

ABOUT THE TUTOR
Julie Ann Haines was born in Belfast and graduated with a BA Honours degree in Fine Art Painting from Norwich School of Art. She first became seriously involved with printmaking when she became a member of Graphic Studio Dublin in 2013.
Her work is comprised mainly of multi plate colour etchings and monotypes and depicts the stuff of everyday living and private moments in the urban landscape close to where she lives.
She exhibits both nationally and internationally and her work can be found in the collections of the National Gallery of Ireland, OPW, British Library, National Library of Ireland, Arts Council of N. Ireland, Dept Finance N. Ireland, University of Limerick and Fingal and Meath County Councils.

Please note there is a minimum requirement of participants, if not reached course is subject to cancellation. A full refund will be issued in this event. If a participant cancels with less than 21 days notice, they forfeit the deposit amount of €50, cancellations with less than 14 days notice will forfeit the full course fee.
