Between Land and Sea, Reflections on the North West Coast
Open Call Submission at the Kevin Lowery Gallery & Studio
The Kevin Lowery Gallery is excited to invite artists based on the North West coast to submit work for their annual group exhibition Between Land and Sea, Reflections on the North West Coast, taking place as a part of this year’s Donegal Bay and Blue Stacks Festival.
About the Exhibition
Three counties, Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo, are linked by their western shorelines on Donegal Bay, an inlet that lies in the North West of Ireland. Bound together by the Atlantic, this wild expanse of coastline has inspired and captivated artists for generations.
The Donegal Bay and Blue Stacks Festival provides an annual celebration for the arts in the South and South West of Donegal, encompassing an area from the majestic Blue Stack Mountains down to the wild shores of Donegal Bay and everything in between.
One of the most remote corners of Ireland, the area is renowned for its ancient cliffs, expansive beaches, crashing waves and hidden enclaves. The rugged shorelines are a testament to the enduring power of nature and its profound influence on the traditions of coastal communities. It is a place of contrasts, where isolation meets connection and resilience is woven into the fabric of everyday life. This rich landscape offers a unique lens through which to explore the communities of people and diverse species who thrive and survive along these shores.
This exhibition invites artists to submit work that reflects on this unique intersection of land and sea, exploring the deep ties between the environment and the lives of those who live here. We welcome submissions that engage with the challenges and possibilities of living in an ongoing dialogue with the sea, the impact of the ocean in shaping local culture, as well as those that reflect on the environmental and ecological preservation of our coastlines.
