Description

DISSOLUTIONS ’25 is the second edition of aemi’s experimental film festival taking place at The Complex from Friday September 26th to Sunday September 28th. The festival will feature screenings, workshops, and discussions showcasing the best of Irish and international artist film practice. Tickets are available either for a single day or for the entire weekend.

Over three days we will screen work by over thirty artists, both Irish and international. DISSOLUTIONS features a number of key collaborations with programmes curated by Alice Quinn Banville, Clodagh Assata Boyce, Diaa Lagan and Oona Mosna of Media City Film Festival.

Our international guests for the festival are celebrated filmmaker Basma Al Sharif and Oona Mosna, artist, author, curator and Artistic Director of Media City Film Festival since 2004. Basma will lead a practice-based workshop and present a solo screening of her work curated by Diaa Lagan. Oona has curated a very special programme made up of films by artists and directors working across continents, generations, and cinematic languages who have played formative roles in the development of Media City Film Festival’s storied history across the last 20 years.

The Dissolutions visual identity was initially conceptualised by Angie Hogan, Dan Kinlay, Evan Smith, Nicole Preece and Ploypailin Jitphulphon through the BA Visual Communications programme at TU Dublin. This year for Dissolutions 25’ the Visual Identity uses elements of risograph printing as well as footage from last year’s Dissolutions film workshop led by Laida Lertxundi.

Across the weekend guests will encounter a wide range of approaches deployed by film artists – works shot on Super 8, 16mm, 35mm – but also works shot digitally, on phones and through direct animation. DISSOLUTIONS offers a unique opportunity to encounter a wide spectrum of work representing some of the very best artist films being made here and further afield. Just as importantly, the festival offers a chance to feel part of this dynamic and vibrant community made up of artists, filmmakers and audiences alike. We look forward to welcoming you in September.
