Ealaín na Gaeltachta and Visual Artists Ireland are delighted to invite you to join us for an Artist and Curator Café at Amharclann Chois Fharraige. This event promises a stimulating and immersive day of dialogue and discussion on contemporary art practice for artists (working across all disciplines), and is aimed in particular at artists practising in the Connacht, Munster, Tyrconnell Gaeltacht regions, and throughout County Galway.
Whether you are an early-career artist or an established practitioner, this event provides the tools and connections to help you manifest your own creative projects.
This marks the first VAI Artist and Curator Café to take place in Connemara in ten years!
Join us at Amharclann Chois Fharraige for a day designed to spark new collaborations and share vital resources.
What to Expect
- Keynote Presentation: A keynote address from the esteemed Catherine Marshall.
- Curator clinics & presentations: Gain insights from four guest curators — Mary Conlon, Sara Muthi,and Valeria Ceregini— as they discuss exhibition development and how to build professional relationships. Participants will also have the opportunity to book 1:1 curatorial clinics, offering personalised feedback and guidance from a curator.
- Artist Practice Showcases: Hear from artists who will present their work and share their experiences in developing their practice within the region.
- Networking & Dialogue: Meet fellow artists in a relaxed, café-style environment.
- Hospitality: A light lunch is included with your registration.
This event will be delivered in both Irish and English.
Registration Fee: €10 (includes a light lunch). Registration tea & coffee from 9.30am. This event has been brought together in partnership with Ealaín na Gaeltachta.
Open Call: Artist Practice Showcase
Ealaín na Gaeltachta, in partnership with VAI, is delighted to invite artists to submit an expression of interest to be showcased at the Café on 27th June.
Selected artists will present slides of their practice and receive a presentation fee of €50.
- How to Apply: Register for this event on the VAI website and send your submission to services@visualartists.ie.
- Submission Requirements: A short artist’s statement (150 words) and three high-resolution images of your work.
- Closing Date: 9th June 2026.
Artists attending from the following Gaeltacht regions ( Munster, Tir Conaill and Co Meath), may apply for additional funding to assist with travel and/or accommodation. Please contact your local Ealaín na Gaeltachta Arts Office for further information. Please note that funding for these supports is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
