A beginner’s guide to woodcarving tools and techniques with wood sculptor Conleth Gent, taught ‘Under the Tent’ at the Schoolhouse—home to Con’s large sculptures in our Sculpture Garden. You’ll cover tool selection and safety, wood characteristics, and both relief and in-the-round carving, working on your own chosen project throughout. Leave with a finished carving of your own, and no doubt plans for your next one. Bring a reference sketch, photo, or clay model to your first class.
