Our Green Approach

Recognising the environmental impacts that our activities can cause, and the urgent necessity to adopt sustainable solutions as a way to minimize these impacts,

We agree to start actively promoting green technologies, workflows and best practices with a low environmental impact. As far as is logistically possible, recognising that there are areas where we can only influence change, and actively engaging on areas that are in our direct power to change, we agree to these Guidelines:

  1. To use a Carbon Calculator in order to track and report the carbon footprint of the production.
  2. To aim to reduce the CO2 emissions to a minimum when using transportation by promoting and encouraging:
    1. Cars or trucks which are either Hybrid, CNG, LPG or electric – Trucks need to be CNG, LNG or Diesel EURO;
    2. To communicate the desired preference of using public means of transport to get to work (public transport tickets at reduced costs or covered by the company, car-sharing, carpools, electric, CNG or hybrid cars);
    3. To prefer partners with an environmental program.
  3. To ensure a proper energy efficiency:
    1. Electricity has to be, when available, from renewable sources;
    2. Move to LED lighting and other energy-saving technologies as much as possible.
  4. To adopt adequate waste disposal and recycling methods:
    1. Waste separation is mandatory everywhere, it must be separated in such a way that it can be handled separated by the local or private waste management facilities;
    2. Move to a zero non-compostable/no-recyclable disposable plastic cups, bowls, plates, and cutlery policy;
    3. Move to a zero plastic bottles policy with the exception of refundable PET bottles;
    4. No plastics give-aways, balloons and merchandise;
    5. Promote and use recyclable paper for all purposes. Furthermore, to promote electronic rather than paper communication;
    6. Remove toxic materials like Styrofoam, PVC, Isocyanates from our work.
  5. To take into consideration, in the process of selecting locations for our work, environmental aspects such as the accessibility by public means of transport;
  6. To make best use of local resources and surroundings:
    1. Catering has to be mostly regional and if possible organic- vegetarian/vegan meals are offered and encouraged;
    2. Tap water (if clean and drinkable) makes a big difference compared to bottled water. It must be provided for free at all times;
    3. Damage caused to fauna and flora must be avoided.
  7. To encourage our members and partners to adopt green policies and to recognise the need for change.
  8. To work towards signposting information and supports that are required for our membership and sector to contribute to change.
  9. To work towards identifying ethical and sustainable projects that either contribute to the reduction of the visual arts’ carbon footprint, or perform research that will contribute in a positive way to changing our sector for the better with regards carbon reduction. We will off-set our annual carbon footprint by supporting such projects when we can, either through a direct financial contribution or through other means of support.

We understand that we are on a journey and that we may make errors on our way. We recognise that errors are also points of learning, and will judge others as we would like them to judge us.
