Job Description – Full Time – Maternity Cover
Answering to the Office Manager, the Advocacy & Advice role works directly with the CEO in support of the work undertaken in the research and delivery of the Advocacy and Advice services. The Role is based in our Dublin Office.
Purpose:
- To provide skilled independent advocacy support to visual artists who wish to raise concerns about their professional lives or make representations;
- To empower visual artists either by enabling them to represent their own views or by speaking on their behalf, or both;
- To assist the visual artist in seeking a satisfactory resolution to any issues raised;
- To provide information, support and advice to visual artists about their rights;
- To promote the participation of visual artists in decisions about their professional lives;
- To ensure that the views of visual artists on issues affecting their professional lives are heard through consultations with them and/or through the development of local participative structures.
Responsibilities are:
- To provide face to face and online advocacy and advice work services to visual artists.
- To undertake both individual advocacy cases and group advocacy projects that will support the voice of individual artists in the decision making processes that affect their professional lives;
- To develop and deliver Consultancy assignments that support VAI’s on-going into research areas surrounding Public Art Commissioning and Delivery.
- To develop and manage contractors, with the Office Manager to undertake advocacy research or consultancy assignments;
- To ensure that all financial targets for Consultancy assignments are met, and that invoicing and financial reporting requirements are delivered in an efficient and timely manner;
- To build upon VAI’s trust relationships with individual visual artists and groups;
- To identify need and undertake responsibility for the development of advocacy, advice, support and information systems appropriate to individual artists and groups;
- To undertake regular evaluation and monitoring of work of the project and to obtain the views of those using it;
- To maintain appropriate recording systems for the service;
- To contribute to the activities, promotion and development of VAI as an agency working on behalf of professional visual artists.
Salary Level: C.

- 5+ Years of experience in a similar role;
- Excellent computer skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Ability to remain focussed and calm under pressure and capable of prioritising tasks;
- Desire to be proactive and create a positive experience for others.
