Art Practice – Project and Time Management with Jackie Ryan – May 14th
Project Management is an integral part of successful project delivery, and centres on three main elements, Quality, Time and Budget. This session will provide guidance and a core template for which to run and evaluate your creative projects, which will assist you to better engage with your clients and your audiences. The session will finish with a Q&A to explore the unique elements of defining goals and delivering efficiently within your cultural practice.
Jackie Ryan
Jackie Ryan is an Art Historian and Production Accountant with nearly 30 years of experience in the cultural sector. She began her career with a postgraduate Higher Diploma in Arts Administration from University College Dublin, following an undergraduate degree in Art History, reflecting a longstanding passion for visual art. Between 2012 and 2020, she expanded her qualifications to include Accountancy, first earning a Diploma in Accounting and Finance from the ACCA and later completing a BSc (Hons) from Oxford Brookes University in partnership with the ACCA. Her final thesis, awarded an A grade, was titled The Impact of Digital Technology on the Business Objectives of the National Portrait Gallery London 2019–2020.
Her professional journey spans a diverse range of cultural roles, beginning as Education Officer at the National Gallery of Ireland (1993–1998), followed by theatre production leadership roles including General Manager of TEAM Educational Theatre Limited (1998–2003) and Draíocht Arts Centre (2003–2008), before becoming CEO of Graphic Studio Dublin, Ireland’s largest and oldest fine art print co-operative (2008–2012). While undertaking accountancy training by night, she also managed the Dublin International Film Festival for its 2013, 2014, and 2015 editions, overseeing an event that attracted over 40,000 attendees across 11 days.
More recently, Jackie has worked as Accounts Director at OBFA Architects, a Dublin-based practice specialising in public social projects in the cultural, education, and housing sectors. Within OBFA, she leads cultural projects, including research and feasibility studies for clients such as The Arts Council, NCAD, Project Arts Centre, and several Local Authorities. She also maintains an active writing practice through art blogs on various platforms, including WordPress, and is currently developing specialist expertise in capital funding for cultural buildings, including their planning, construction, management, and governance.
Since 2012, Jackie has lectured on the MA in Cultural Policy and Arts Management at University College Dublin, where she teaches the Finance module. She also delivers Finance modules on the MSc in Arts and Cultural Management at the Burgundy School of Business in Dijon, France, and on the Professional Development Programmes of the European College of Business Management in the UK.
