Video Work: “Darling Diaphanous”

Darling Diaphanous is a love letter to the Lesbian Archive at Glasgow Women’s Library, a poetic meditation on queer-feminist archives, intimacy, and the act of writing as a form of touch. This project is part of a larger body of work and forthcoming exhibition at Glasgow Women’s Library in Autumn 2025 that explores queer resistance through embodied, emotional, and text-based practices. This exhibition will celebrate the Lesbian Archive’s 30th anniversary.

As part of the project, I am inviting participants who are interested in queer-feminist expression and/or archival work to take part in a collaborative video piece focused on reading archival materials aloud. This will involve:

  • Receiving a curated selection of archival texts via email

  • Choosing 1–2 texts that resonate with you

  • Recording your readings (instructions to follow)

  • Sharing a short reflection afterward (why you chose your text, how it felt to read it aloud)

  • OPTIONAL: Submitting a 10-second video of yourself looking at the camera (alternative options available if anonymity is preferred)

The final video will be primarily text-based, but these reflections and brief visual moments will create a sense of presence, care, and shared authorship. The work will be exhibited in 2025 and later archived as part of the wider project.

Compensation & Acknowledgement
This is currently an unpaid opportunity. However, all participants will be credited (unless anonymity is requested), and their contributions will become part of the public exhibition and a lasting archival record.

Should additional funding become available, all participants will be informed and offered a modest honorarium in recognition of their time and contribution. The project is committed to ethical and transparent collaboration.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

If you would like to be part of Darling Diaphanous, please email a brief expression of interest to Chloe at chloeaustinart@hotmail.com

Deadline: August 31st

Thank you for considering lending your voice to this shared act of remembering, reimagining, and reclaiming queer history.
