Commemorative sculpture commission: Billl ‘Squires’ Gannon, Kildare Town
Kildare County Council wish to commission a commemorative sculpture in Kildare town, marking the historic occasion when Kildare was the first County to be awarded the Sam Maguire Trophy in 1928 and its captain, Bill ‘Squires’ Gannon, a legendary figure in Kildare. The team then went on to win again in the subsequent year but the accolade of being recipient of the first ever trophy can clearly not be repeated.
