The Golden Fleece Award provides funding for artists working in all forms of visual, craft and applied arts. It is the largest prize open to both artists and makers in Ireland, and it aims to provide resources for creative practitioners to innovate and develop their work at critical points in their careers. The prize fund fluctuates from year to year but is generally in the region of €20,000 overall, comprising one or more major Awards and several smaller Merit or Special Awards. How the fund is distributed varies annually at the Trustees’ discretion.
All applications are assessed by a five-person specialist Advisory Panel. For the 2020 Award this includes Patrick T. Murphy (Panel Chair + Director, Royal Hibernian Academy), Declan Long (art critic + co-director of NCAD’s MA ‘Art in the Contemporary World’), Catherine Marshall (art historian, curator + editor), Ann Mulrooney (Director, Science Gallery Dublin) and Angela O’Kelly (jeweller + Head of Design for Body & Environment at NCAD).
