Drawing, Design and Mokuhanga (Japanese Woodblock Printmaking) with Debra Bowden at National Print Museum
This one day workshop focuses on black and white images and begins with experimental drawing and mark making using a variety of tools and materials. The drawings are developed into designs suitable for carving into birch plywood blocks. The carved woodblocks are then printed onto a variety of papers, producing a series of black and white prints 11 x 15 cm. Mokuhanga is an environmentally friendly ancient Japanese technique using water based inks and hand burnishing (no need for a printing press) making this an accessible method to continue at home. Suitable for complete beginners or those with some previous experience.
