Created in 2013 Hors Pistes initiates exchanges between artisans and designers from all over the world. During a month-long residency, designers and craftsmen share their knowhow and conceive a project together. The resulting collaborations foster the transfer of artisanal masteries and question their heritage and future by proposing new applications to traditional manufacturing methods. An editorial team is also invited to participate and captures the working atmosphere of the residency and the living environment. Hors Pistes offers professionals the opportunity to participate in a multidisciplinary laboratory where they reflect on conventional production and cooperation models by encouraging innovative creative processes in which the emphasis is put on human dialogue.
During a month in Singapore, artisans and designers will conceive projects together while an editorial team will document the collaborations.
Hors Pistes will invite 6 to 8 designers and an editorial team composed of 2 members for the Singapore residency program. Designers will exchange knowledges and conceive a project in collaboration with Singapore based artisans.
The editorial team will realise an editorial project somehow related to the workshops daily life and/or to the culture and history of the working environment.
The curatorial direction and the choice of the medium (website, publication, collection of drawings, texts, video,…) will be made by the editorial team.
The residency will take place in the summer 2020, from mid-July to mid-August (exact dates to be confirmed). At the end of the residency program, Hors Pistes will produce an exhibition in Singapore to present the projects made by the participants. This exhibition may travel internationally. afterwards.
