Description

Join Visual Artists Ireland for an insightful talk with Ireland Wisdom, where she explores the intersection of classical rigour and contemporary practice. This session moves beyond the finished canvas to examine the daily realities of her creative and professional life.

Highlights include:

  • Practice & Process: Gain insight into the discipline of painting from life and how Ireland synthesises memory and ancient iconography into contemporary narratives.
  • Galleries & Growth: Hear first-hand about her experience navigating international gallery relationships and securing opportunities across global art hubs.
  • Professional Insights: Discover how Ireland balances the demands of a traditional, centuries-old technique with the pace of the modern exhibition circuit.

The presentation will conclude with a Q&A, offering an opportunity to discuss the practicalities of building a sustainable career in the arts.

Ireland Wisdom

Ireland Wisdom (b. 1996, Los Angeles, CA) is a classically trained painter whose work threads centuries of visual tradition into the present. Educated at the Florence Academy of Art, she developed her practice through rigorous training in painting from life, a discipline she continues to uphold—working from the living model or from memory to capture the shifting light, movement, and vitality of her subjects. Rooted in the lineage of the Old Masters, Wisdom’s paintings merge classical technique with contemporary sensibility, folding ancient iconography and allegory into the present. Through symbolic ornamentation—shells, masks, fish, and braided forms—her figures become vessels of memory and imagination, existing within layered temporalities where new mythologies emerge.

Raised in Topanga, California by an artist father, Wisdom was immersed early in the possibilities of art as both a way of life and a means of understanding the world. Her work reflects a deeply personal synthesis of history, place, and community, informed by formative experiences living and working within intergenerational artist environments such as the historic Zorthian Ranch. Drawing influence from European masters while grounding her subjects in her own lived observations, Wisdom constructs paintings that extend beyond likeness into narrative and symbolism—imbuing her figures with a sense of spirit, intimacy, and permanence. She has presented solo exhibitions internationally, including in Los Angeles, New York, Somerset, Seoul, Paris, and Athens, and her work has been featured in major art fairs and group exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
