Egg tempera is a truly beautiful medium, with examples both in the early Renaissance and in contemporary landscape, portrait and still life subjects. This two-day egg tempera workshop will give you immediate access to the practice of egg tempera painting. Fergus will explain and demonstrate each step, and participants will complete their own small painting. Each participant will receive a previously-prepared true gesso panel.

Hands On: Breaking eggs and making paints
Hands On: Starting your first painting
Understanding colour: hue, value and chroma
Colour mixing, hatching techniques, texture. glazing, scumbling
Hands On: making your own true gesso panel
Hands On: transferring a drawing to the panel
Hands On: making your own painting
For this session participants may wish to bring a simple and clear images (landscape or another subject) approximately 8” by 6” (20 x 15cm) to paint. It is also an option to make a copy of a detail from an Old Master painting such as one by Andrew Wyeth.
