ABOUT
Cork Arts Society, trading as the Lavit Gallery, was established as a not-for-profit registered charity to support and promote the work of visual artists in the Cork Region and encourage an appreciation and understanding of contemporary art practice amongst local audiences through its ambitious annual exhibition programme. The Board of the Lavit Gallery now seeks applications for the role of Gallery Manager, who will work on-site at the gallery space on Wandesford Quay, Cork city.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Working with the Board to establish and achieve the organisations’ strategic objectives, and reporting at monthly management meetings, the Gallery Manager will be responsible for, and manage, the gallery’s annual programming and commercial activities. They will also be responsible for all governance and compliance issues that relate to a not-for-profit registered charity. The ideal candidate for this role will have management, sales and business development experience in a comparable arts-based environment.
THE ROLE
- To develop and implement the gallery’s annual programme in line with overall strategic objectives
- To curate, plan and deliver all annual exhibitions
- To manage and develop the gallery’s retail space
- To manage the gallery’s marketing and communications activities
- To manage the gallery inventory and archive
- To manage transport logistics
- To manage and develop relationships with existing and new members.
- To prepare monthly accounts and ensure compliance with relevant bodies.
- To manage operational and building requirements
- To achieve annual sales targets for the gallery and retail space
- To identity networking and business development opportunities for the Lavit Gallery
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL
- Have experience in a comparable public-facing role
- Understand both the commercial and reputational needs of a not-for-profit registered charity
- Have excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Be results driven and commercially aware
- Possess strong administration and Microsoft Office skills
- Ideally have experience in online selling
- Have the ability to work on their own initiative
- Have the ability to manage and support a small team
- Have the ability to work effectively and efficiently with relevant organisations and state agencies
