Open Call for NI Based Artists | Art Work for Palliative Care Hub at Ards Hospital
The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust is seeking expressions of interest from artists based in/ or from Northern Ireland with experience of working in healthcare environment to create a unique artwork for Palliative Care Hub, Ards Hospital. The Trust has established a commitment to improving the patient and staff environment through Integrated Art.
The feature artwork for the main reception area of the Palliative Care Hub, Ards Hospital will be an important enhancement of the main waiting space of the hub for palliative patients and the family and carers arriving into the unit. We put patients and staff at the centre of everything we do. This will be a space of calm and welcome for our patients and service users. The artwork design will reflect that focus on a restful and soothing welcome providing the highest quality, safe and effective care from the moment of arrival.
The theme chosen for this project is “Breathe”, drawing on IMAGES and writing GENERATED BY OUR CLIENTS AND USERS attending the NI Cancer Focus programmes (Art therapy, Zest for life and the Men’s supported group) and ideas of mindfulness and relaxation to enhance our care for our patients, staff and visitors. The final piece should be aesthetically pleasing, drawing the eye of users stimulating the imagination while adding to a sense of well-being and retreat.
The successful artists will provide artwork/s that are uplifting, inspiring and have a restful quality with a confident use of expression. The Trust would particularly welcome symbolic or semi-abstract work in two or three dimensions (wall based), reflecting the importance of time to think. Highly representational images of particular places are not advised as these may have upsetting associations for our service users and their carers.
The Trust will commission an individual artwork/s with the theme Breathe, to be integrated in to the building. This commission attracts an award of between £4000 and £7000 depending on the number and scale of pieces.
There will be a two stage selection process for the selected works.
The works may be a wall relief, or 2 dimensional artwork, in any medium, suitable for internal environment.
