Description

The Crow Gallery will showcase artists working through the lens of disability justice, exploring perceptions of disability, ableism, and inclusion. Launching during Westival (the Westport Arts Festival) in a pop-up space, the project aims to challenge public attitudes and spark dialogue and discussion about the lived experiences of disabled people. The exhibition will include art from invited local disabled artists as well as artists from this Open Call.

We invite established or emerging artists to submit new or existing work that explores these themes. Proposals can be for artworks in any medium, but we are most keen to receive proposals in painting, collage, drawing, video or photography as the venue is small. Work by a limited number of artists will be chosen by a panel.

The gallery will promote visibility, community and a shift in how society views difference. This pilot will inform the development of a permanent space which will involve disabled people visioning, planning, curating and running the space.

Please send the following in text or video:

  • A concise artist’s statement that tells us about your work and how it might connect and respond to the theme above (300 words max)
  • A CV (2 pages max)
  • A clearly outlined description of work to be exhibited, it’s size and details about its installation.
  • Examples of previous work or links to a website. Up to 3 images. (If you are an emerging artist, this is not a requirement)
  • Video submissions should be a maximum of 5 minutes.
  • If you wish to submit in other formats or for an Easy Read Version, please email thecrowgallery@gmail.com

Notes for Applicants:

We will confirm receipt of all applications.

There is no submission fee.

There will be press and promotion work as part of Westival and as part of documenting the evolution of the gallery. We reserve the right to photograph works and to use elements of accepted entries for exhibition for publicity purposes, unless the artist expressly states the contrary in writing. Copyright of all work remains the property of the artist.

Accommodation is available for the dates of the festival (Oct 22nd to 27th) in a shared house and a stipend of €200 per artist is offered.

Applications should be submitted via email to:

thecrowgallerywestport@gmail.com
