Making and Momentum: In Conversation with Eileen Gray is proud to launch a series of artist prizes, ambitiously aiming to support the next generation of Irish makers, designers, artists and artisans. Applicants may be Irish or based in Ireland.
Each prize is an equal amount of €1250, awarded to 8 artists on the strength of their own visual language and/or design idea – specifically aimed at facilitating the creation of experimental or solution based art and design.
There are no rigid categories applicable – for example “design”, “sculpture”, “textiles”, “performance” etc – instead we believe in each practitioner defining their own practice through virtue of one’s own work.
The prize is available to students, although a formal art education is not necessary.
Musicians, writers and special projects (for example club nights, poetry readings, live performance, movement workshops, the support of queer spaces) will all be considered.
We believe all creative outputs add to culture and aim to broaden conversations around art and art making, enabling further access points for everyone.
We aim to support solution based design, including work that is created by and for disabled people. These projects can be in early stage development of part of a design study programme.
To apply, please send an outline of your proposal for the award (no more than 300 words), an artist statement or designer bio, and no more than 10 examples of recent work.
If applying for an early stage development project, please send an overview of the project or intended use for the prize to:
