Description

Mayo County Council is seeking applications from artists to join the Public Art Panel 2025 – 2030. The panel is being established to deliver potential public art commissions funded through the Per Cent for Art Scheme. The purpose of the percent for art scheme is to commission artists to create new work for a specific community or in a variety of contexts such as housing developments, fire stations, libraries, towns, villages, regeneration projects etc. Public Art Commissions may be in any art form and may be transient, temporary or permanent. Applications from artists, collectives and organisations will be accepted. Mayo County Council is keen to have artists encompassing a wide range of art forms, arts practices, community engagement approaches and specialist interests within the panel.

Mayo County Council has established a strong reputation for commissioning high quality, ambitious public art in a range of contexts and in line with national best practice. Each public art commission is considered a unique opportunity for an artist to explore and engage with a specific place and for communities to consider new ways of thinking about, engaging with and experiencing art. Over the years the council has commissioned a diverse range of public art projects including temporary interventions, performances, visual artworks, publications, multimedia works, music compositions, collaborative and socially engaged projects.

There will be an artist briefing online on the 15th August 2025 at 11am. Artists do not have to attend this if they are unable to and are welcome to apply for the panel regardless of their attendance. Booking required: Email aotoole@mayococo.ie. The artist briefing will be recorded and made available on:
