The Board of Management of Scoil Choilmcille National School, Letterkenny, County Donegal, wish to commission a Public Art Work which will reflect the collaborative spirit of the school and the strong emphasis on team work for both pupils and staff members.
The board of Management of Scoil Cholmcille (‘The Commissioners’), wish to commission a public artwork to reflect the collaborative spirit of our school and the strong emphasis on team work for both pupils and staff members. We envision an image which is perhaps drawn from nature, reflecting our beautiful elevated location in a mature and leafy part of Letterkenny Town. Although our school location is urban we enjoy stunning views over the river Swilly, to the glens of Glenswilly parish and beyond. We feel the ever changing nature of our surroundings is reflected in nature itself and has an intrinsic appeal to primary school children in particular. Geographic and economic migration are evident in our surroundings.
Artist Brief: scoil cholmcille art brief 2022
Nature of the Work
The work should be a permanent, outdoor work or installation, which the artist believes reflects and satisfies the objectives of the commission.
The proposed site for the artwork will be the foreground court of the main school building. A provisional location has been identified as the fourth planter, closest to the hammerhead carpark turnabout. Electrics within the planter have been established, although this need not determine the materials or final location of the work.
The site for the artwork has been agreed in consultation with the Project Architect on April 1st 2022, and the Commissioners.
€36,000 (to include Artist’s Fee, All Tax Liabilities, Insurances, Materials, VAT, Transport to Site and installation.
