St. Mary’s Boys’ National School is located in the heart of Maynooth town, Co. Kildare. It is an all-boys primary school catering for approximately 600 pupils. The mission of St. Mary’s BNS is to educate our pupils to their fullest potential, in an environment where Christian values are fostered and where they are happy, safe, respect themselves and others and where each child feels equal.
St. Mary’s achieve this for pupils by:
- encouraging them to develop their talents and self-confidence while retaining their individuality by means of the curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
- providing support for them at all times.
- making them conscious and proud of Christian values and Irish heritage
- making them aware that we are living in a changing world and helping them to respect other cultures and religious beliefs.
- developing their social and communication skills.
- developing their civic spirit through honesty and openness and by being made aware of the needs of others.
- maintaining a healthy respect for the environment.
Additional information can be viewed on the school’s website, maynoothbns.ie/, or on the school’s Twitter feed (@maynoothbns).
The school is engaged in a capital building project funded by the Department of Education. The construction of a new three-storey, 24 classroom school building and special needs unit
is underway on the campus. The project is due for completion 8th July 2022. As part of the capital building project, Per Cent for Art funding of € 49,000 has been secured.
St. Mary’s BNS wishes to engage an artist, to work with the school community, on a commission to mark this milestone in the development of the school. Expressions of interests from artists are now invited.
The commission may include Artists in Residence programmes, commissioning of artwork (temporary and permanent) across art forms and included digital media, and may include collaborative work practice. Applications that consider the physical school environment (the buildings and grounds, indoor and outdoor) as well as applications that directly engage the school community are welcome. It is expected that the artist will have previous experience of working in educational settings.
The budget for the commission is €49,000 to include all costs associated with the commission.
