National Sculpture Factory invites artists to submit proposals for a two stage open competition to create a permanent indoor artwork to be
located at St. Paul’s, Secondary School, Athy Road, Monasterevin, Co. Kildare, W34 F576.
CONCEPT & MATERIALS
The theme or concept of the commission centre around the diversity, growth, ethos and vision of the school, including the school as a community The commissioners are seeking an artwork that is artistically ambitious, aesthetically impactful and that will have a dynamic presence
in the school building. The artwork is intended to be permanent. The brief does not specify the materials to be used. Aesthetically the design and materials should complement the unique design elements of the architecture by de Blacam & Meagher Architects.
BUDGET
The budget for this commission is €55,000.
The successful artist will be responsible for the design and creation of the artwork including final installation within the budget. The budget is to include VAT, all artists design fees, expenses, material insurances, production and manufacturing, engineer’s reports, any relevant
consultations and installation fees, transport costs, and other necessary fees in order to finalise the installation of the art piece.

This is a two-stage open commission managed by the National Sculpture Factory, Albert Road, Cork.

REGISTRATION OF INTEREST
To register your interest in the project you must email elma@nationalsculpturefactory.com, expressing your interest in the project by 12 noon on Wednesday, 7 June 2022.
STAGE 1 APPLICATIONS:
Artists will be required to submit the following
- Brief description / outline of your concept / inspiration for this commission and how you would work in the context of the brief (i.e. , how you would approach the commission)
- Outline proposed materials
- Scale
- Budget
- Relevant curriculum vitae
- Images of past works that may be relevant in this context (N.B max 6 with image credits)
PLEASE NOTE MAQUETTE/MODELS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AT THIS STAGE.
Ideally, we ask artists to submit their information in a single PDF to include brief description / concept outline / inspiration for this
commission, CV / images of relevant past work and budget.
Stage 1 deadline: 27 July.
COMPETITION JURY
A five member Jury Panel that will include two representatives of the School, a representative of de Blacham & Meagher Architects, and two
visual art professionals nominated by the National Sculptural Factory will short list up to three proposals from available information.
National Sculpture Factory will be impartial administrators of the selection panel. NSF will not have a deciding vote or influence on the selection.
STAGE 2 APPLICATIONS
A maximum of up to 3 artists will be short listed, and receive a fee of €500 to develop their proposal to stage 2.
The selected artist(s) will be invited to meet with School representatives to explain and aid the understanding of the work at the project’s initiation. The same five member panel will award the commission to one of the short listed proposals.
