Aluminium salt etching uses sodium chloride and copper sulphate to produce deep black tonal qualities in the plate akin to an aquatint. This is an experimental course combining traditional and digital printmaking techniques to achieve surprising and unique results. You will explore resists made of various materials to achieve a range of tone, texture and depth in the prints. The course will also combine the use of Photoresist film with hand drawn imagery and mark making.
This four week evening course is aimed at beginners or those with some experience who would like to become comfortable and experiment more with the etching process. You will learn how to operate the press and etchants (chemicals) safely, which will prove useful in continuing on your printmaking practice. All materials are provided but a high-contrast, digital image will be required for exposing onto the photo-resist film.
4 Week, Tuesday Evening Course; 6pm – 9pm, January 28th until February 18th.
