Undertaking Major Public Art Commissions (19 Mar)
Kildare County Council Arts Service is delighted to invite artists from Kildare and the surrounding counties to an exclusive professional development talk featuring renowned street artist and illustrator, Joe Caslin.
This session is designed for artists looking to scale their practice and navigate the complexities of large-scale public installations. Taking place at the Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, on Thursday, 19th March, from 6pm to 8pm, the event offers a deep dive into the creative and logistical journey of transforming a concept into a landmark public work.
This is a unique opportunity to learn from one of Ireland’s most prominent figures in public art and to network with fellow artists in the region.
Joe Caslin
Joe Caslin is an Irish street artist, academic and activist. Best known for his beautifully rendered pencil drawings, which manifest as towering pieces of street art. His highly accessible work engages directly with social issues on an unavoidable scale. Caslin is known to tackle pressing and often challenging themes head-on, including suicide, drug addiction, marriage equality, stigma, immigration, consent, sectarian division, disability and gender based violence. The monochrome drawings Caslin creates live with us and against many of us for some time before washing away. They hold a mirror up to the kind of society that we are, whilst asking us individually what kind of society we want to be a part of.
