WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
In this workshop, you will create a beautiful handmade sketchbook with Éilís Murphy of Folded Leaf.

This versatile sketchbook will be created by folded and sewing signatures to create a multi-section hard back book. It will also have pages that have pockets for storing memorabilia and other small items.
Your A5 size book will be covered in a mixture of book cloth and paste paper and kept closed with a wrap around cord tie. The binding will have a decorative exposed stitch, creating a beautiful pattern along its spine.
You will gain knowledge of how to use basic book binding tools and the principals of bookbinding including grain direction, gluing and folding tips.
This sturdy handmade book is ideal for carrying around in your bag and can be used for sketching, journalling and other creative activities.

REQUIREMENTS AND MATERIALS
Participants need to bring:
Stanley knife/scalpel, apron, cutting mat, metal ruler and pencil.
Optional: Any decorative papers you might like to include in your book, either on the cover or inside.
All other materials will be supplied.

Health and safety information will be given at the start of the course, and you will be asked to sign a form declaring that you agree to follow health and safety procedures as advised.

WHAT YOU CAN DO NEXT
After this course, you can go on to do other exciting courses at Graphic Studio Dublin, focusing on printmaking techniques like lino printing that you could use to create decorative cover paper for your next portfolio.
