Explore and practise the fundamentals of painting and drawing in this part-time BTEI course which walks students through the properties of colour, light, form, line, texture found in the age-old mediums of Painting and Drawing. Through experimental techniques and intuitive processes students will build their creative identities through an appreciation of traditional and contemporary modes and materials of painting.

Meet Your Tutor
Our Printmaking & Art Appreciation/ Drawing & Painting Tutor is James Merrigan. He is an artist, cultural critic and editor. For the past decade he has prompted and disseminated polemical and playful art criticism as a writer, editor, teacher and artist. This 10-year project includes online and printed identities and entities, including +billion- journal (2010-17), Fugitive Papers (2011-13) and Small Night Projects (2018-to present). In 2011 he was awarded the inaugural Critical Writing Award by Visual Artists Ireland and The LAB Dublin. For the past four years he has edited, screen-printed and exhibited art and text projects under the moniker, Small Night Projects. James teaches and co-curates at Gorey School of Art’s Periphery Space, and lectures in Psychoanalysis and Art at Trinity College Dublin. His art writing today exists independently of editorial or institution at smallnight.org

<div>Applications to our BTEI courses can be made by applicants who are aged 16 or over; - entitled to a medical card; - an unemployment payment; - a means-tested welfare payment; - a Family Income Supplement Payment - participate in VTOS or Youthreach; - who have/ or have not completed upper level education ( e.g., Junior Cert or Leaving Cert).</div>
<div> Applicants will be expected to attend a course induction day to help them orientate within GSA environment and with fellow students.
