Below is a description of what Gareth is teaching over the five days

Price includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch, and full use of the facilities in this wonderful 5-Star Hotel.-
An intensive and informal learning experience with Gareth Reid, consisting of 2 days of drawing and 3 of painting with a model.
The focus is on working from life, emphasising intensive observation, persistence, and how to simplify the process.
This course is designed to enhance observational skills in portraiture by encouraging a critical look at shapes and spatial relationships, with an emphasis on understanding the structure of the head. It aims to help participants loosen up, embrace mistakes as part of the process, and approach portraiture as a cohesive, lifelike whole rather than a collection of separate features.
In this course, we’ll explore techniques in drawing such as building up and rubbing out, sharpening or softening edges, moving beyond simple outlines, and working with tone. In painting, we’ll be blocking in as a strong foundation, using a limited palette, taking risks, and continually refining to get closer to the subject.
While learning is the main focus, the environment is relaxed, enjoyable, and fun!
