Workshop 1
In this 2 hour workshop we will meander through
– Ethical and safe wild harvesting and propagation and growing techniques for some useful historical dye plants.
– Several methods of colour extraction from common hedgerow plants including recipes for natural local binders to create a closed loop in the production of our inks.
– pH shifting techniques to expand the colour potential and take a look at further benefits of pH tweaking.
– Storage and preservation of our inks.
– Note keeping ideas, the pedantic way!
This live workshop will be available as a downloadable recording and is sent out with a short recap video which includes a list of further reading/information sources. Participants receive a list of easy to assemble bits and bobs a week before the workshop date.
Workshop 2
In this 1 1/2 hour workshop, we will take an exciting look at
– Easy to make charcoal at home and inspiration on what to use.
– Two recipes for ink making from this carbon for brush and pen work including recipes for local natural binder to create a closed loop in the production of our inks.
– A deep dive into oak gall/tannic ink.
– A selection of historical black inks, their stories, uses and techniques for making…
– …and modern day cheats to the above!
This live online workshop will be available as a downloadable recording and is sent out with a short recap video which includes a list of further reading/ information sources.
Participants receive a (very DIY) video a week before the workshop date, with thorough instructions for charcoal prep ahead of the workshop.
