In this 1 1/2 hour workshop, we will take an exciting look at
-easy to make charcoal at home and inspiration on what to use.
-two recipes for ink and paint making from this carbon for brush and pen work including recipes for local natural binder to create a closed loop in our making.
-a deep dive into oak gall/tannic ink.
-a selection of historical black inks, their stories, uses and techniques for making…
-…and modern day cheats to the above!
A recording of our live workshop will also be sent out as a downloadable recording along with a short recap video which includes a list of further reading, information sources and recipes.
Participants receive a (very DIY) video a week before the workshop date, with thorough instructions for charcoal prep ahead of the workshop. There is no stress on this for the workshop, participants are more than welcome to use shop bought charcoal or fire remnants.
This live online workshop will be facilitated through the online platform Zoom.
